Another Day of Clearing the Salmonberry Corridor
On September 14, Ken Wenzel, Keith Baker, Jack Kirk and Allen Sheetz headed into the Salmonberry corridor for another day of trail clearing, continuing work from an earlier volunteer outing.
A Sunday on the Nehalem River Segment
On Sunday, September 13, a group of hikers joined us to explore the Nehalem River Segment of the future Salmonberry Trail, following the historic rail corridor along the river toward Snark Creek.
The roughly three-mile outing gave participants a chance to experience a part of the Salmonberry that feels very different from the Valley and Coast sections. Here, the corridor follows the Nehalem River through forest, with the railroad and the river shaping the route through the landscape.
Six Miles, Three Chainsaws and a Day on the Salmonberry
On September 9, Salmonberry Trail volunteers Ken Wenzel, Keith Baker and Greg Peek headed into the River section of the corridor for a day of trail clearing.
Starting at the confluence of the Salmonberry and Nehalem rivers, the three worked their way 3.2 miles upriver, cutting logs and clearing the route as they went. Then came the other half of the job: walking all the way back out with their chainsaws.
September Events!
September is shaping up to be a busy month along the Salmonberry, with opportunities to hike, volunteer, explore neighboring trails and spend time outdoors from the Valley to the Coast.
We’ve already started the month with volunteers working on the Learning Mile in Buxton, apple picking along the corridor, habitat restoration in Wheeler and a guided exploration of the Cedar Wetlands Preserve in Rockaway Beach. But there is still plenty ahead.
