A Sunday on the Nehalem River Segment

On Sunday, September 13, a group of hikers joined us to explore the Nehalem River Segment of the future Salmonberry Trail, following the historic rail corridor along the river toward Snark Creek.

The roughly three-mile outing gave participants a chance to experience a part of the Salmonberry that feels very different from the Valley and Coast sections. Here, the corridor follows the Nehalem River through forest, with the railroad and the river shaping the route through the landscape.

Guided hikes like this one are about more than getting outside. They give people a chance to see the corridor as it exists today, learn more about its history and natural surroundings, and better understand what it will take to transform this former rail line into the 82-mile Salmonberry Trail.
