Mike Cafferata, Board Member 

Mike Cafferata is a native Oregonian, forester, and the Executive Director of the Oregon Small Woodlands Association (OSWA). After a 28-year career with the Oregon Department of Forestry, including serving as District Forester in Forest Grove, Mike joined OSWA in 2025 to lead the organization representing Oregon's family forestland owners.

Mike has been involved with the Salmonberry Trail since 2011, helping guide its development from an idea into one of Oregon's most important trail projects. He helped establish the Salmonberry Trail Foundation and has served on its Board since its inception, working with local communities, public agencies, landowners, and partner organizations to advance the vision of reconnecting the Oregon Coast and the Willamette Valley through the historic rail corridor.

As Executive Director of OSWA, Mike works to advance the stewardship, education, advocacy, and fellowship of Oregon's family forestland owners. He lives in Columbia County with his wife, Julie. They have three grown children, all of whom have volunteered to help clear invasive species along the Salmonberry Trail corridor. Together they enjoy backpacking, caring for their family forest, and truffle hunting with their dogs.
