Learning Mile

Thank You, This Page Is Being Developed!

With an active board and volunteers, the Salmonberry Trail Foundation is advancing with both energy and dedication. The hiring of dedicated leadership has accelerated this advancement. The recent salvaging of 8 miles of railway in Washington County has also sparked the community's vision for the future Salmonberry Trail – we want to keep the momentum going!

We respectfully seek $1,000,000 in congressional support to transform the area south of the historic Williams Creek Trestle into the "Learning Mile" segment of the Salmonberry Trail, enabling us to:

  1. Evaluate trail surface materials for optimal use.

  2. Experiment with invasive species control and native planting methods.

  3. Collaborate with experts for educational signage.

  4. Partner with designers on signage aesthetics and materials.

  5. Work with educators to craft trail-centered curricula, turning the trail into an open-air classroom.

The funds will also cover purchasing maintenance equipment for preserving a state of good repair (atv/trailer, tools) and will deck 650 linear feet of rail-bridge for pedestrian access. All progress/learning will be carefully documented. Bridges will be inspected during and after completion.

Breaking down the costs, we have $497,400 for the bridge decking, $367,000 for the mile of trail, $60,000 for management, another $60,000 for curriculum development, and $15,600 for the maintenance equipment. This totals $1,000,000, a calculated investment in the trail's future.

*We are asking for funds to deck 650ft of bridge of 1000ft available @ $765p/ft. More funding would mean more decking.
