Salmonberry helps sponsor symposium on connecting Oregonians with the outdoors
The Salmonberry Trail and Tillamook Forest Heritage Trust were underwriting sponsors for the recent Roadmap to the Outdoors Symposium, organized by First Gentleman Dan Little, Governor Kate Brown and Travel Oregon.
Salmonberry Trail team members joined more than 250 others in identifying barriers—and solutions—to connecting diverse users with outdoor recreation and education experiences. Public officials, non-profit leaders, representatives from the business community and leaders from diverse cultural communities in urban and rural Oregon brainstormed ways to help users of all ages and experience levels feel safe, informed, ready and motivated to seek outdoor adventure.
The symposium is tied to the Oregon Outdoor Recreation Initiative, which is focused on improving access to recreation and increasing the economic impact and sustainability of Oregon’s outdoor recreation economy for rural and urban Oregon.
The team Salmonberry members who participated were impressed with the range of needs, concerns, perspectives and recreation preferences expressed by the diverse community of symposium participants. The conversations and collaborations sparked there can help inform future trail development and get the word out to new communities of interest and potential partners.
